One of our team’s favorite hotels, The Driskill, has recently undergone an $8.8 million renovation at the historic 130-year-old hotel here in Austin, Texas. Many of the 189 guest rooms were redone with beautiful modern touches and amenities to complement the vintage 1920s finishes in the space. The café was remodeled as well with the addition of stunning new accoutrements and an eye-opening splash of green color throughout the room. What used to be a secondary street level bar, is now a converted dessert shop and bakery that connects to the café. The smell of freshly baked bread and delectable bites wafting through the open kitchen window don’t hurt the scenery either.
The Driskill is well known for its grandeur and elegance, along with its desirable location directly on 6th Street in the entertainment district. If you haven’t had a chance to stop by their upscale dining room and bar, it’s a must see if you’re in Austin. The dining experience focuses on serving steaks from the hotel’s dry-aging room and fresh seafood accompanied by local produce. The Driskill Bar offers a unique collection of quiet nooks, intimate seating areas and generous spaces. Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere of overstuffed leather sofas, bracing spirits and fine wines with lively entertainment. They are open for dinner and have one of the best happy hours in town!
Call us old souls but we just can’t get enough of the rich history surrounding every inch of the hotel. Take a photo op in their antique bank vault, people-watch everyone on Sixth Street from the impressive balcony, or delight in a cocktail while you transport back in time, whichever you choose you will not be disappointed.
